Collegiate Relay Championship

Twenty years ago, in the spring of 1988, the first ever Collegiate National Championship was held at the Wildflower Triathlon. In 2008, collegiate triathlon continues to develop and evolve at an increasing rate. This year the Nevada Silverman Triathlon is excited to announce we will host the first ever Collegiate Relay Championship.

The Collegiate Relay Championship will cover the Nevada Silverman Half Distance Triathlon, consisting of a 1.2-mile swim in Lake Mead, a 56-mile bike ride and a 13.1-mile run through the astonishingly hilly downtown Henderson, NV.

The Championship will crown a top men’s, women’s and co-ed relay team, with the ultimate title of Collegiate Relay Champion(s) going to the team with the lowest men's, women's and co-ed combined score (XC-style scoring).

In its twenty-year history, Collegiate National Championships has grown from a spontaneous idea to a fiercely contested event with more teams racing every year. In the past three years Collegiate Nationals has grown from consisting of twenty-eight combined teams to forty-five combined teams and a field of 1,000 competitors in 2008.

The current Collegiate National Champion team is U.C. Berkeley, second is C.U. Boulder and the U.S. Military Academy rounds out the podium in third. Other perennial powerhouses include; the University of Florida, the U.S. Naval Academy, U.C. Santa Barbara, U.C. San Diego and Stanford.

Last year, UCSB sent two teams to compete in the Nevada Silverman Full Distance Relay. These two teams had a blast and vowed to return with more teams in 2008. The competition will be fierce and the race will be an opportunity for teams across the nation to add a championship event to their fall season and to connect with teams from every region.

Registration for the Collegiate Relay Championship will open August 1st and is only open to the first 30 relay teams – so register early. Further details coming soon to the Silverman Web site at www.silvermannv.com.
